Synopsis

Mata sang Tamasak (Eyes of Tamasak) is a historical fantasy drama rooted in the rich heritage of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo. It follows Maya, an imaginative young girl who begins to question whether the legendary white horse, Tamasak, truly existed after hearing an old bedtime story from her mother. Later that night, a mysterious silver glow draws her outside, where she encounters the magnificent, glowing horse standing silently beyond her gate. As Maya follows the mystical creature into the quiet countryside, she meets the noble Don Protacio, who invites her to witness the forgotten history behind the legend. Transported through time, Maya experiences the hardships endured by the people of old Malutac and learns of Don Protacio's unwavering dream of establishing an independent town for his people. She witnesses the painful sacrifice of his beloved horse, Tamasak, offered in exchange for the approval that would eventually transform Malutac into the thriving municipality of Barotac Nuevo. Through these visions, Maya discovers that the town's prosperity was built upon selflessness, courage, and hope rather than personal glory. Awakening from what seems like a dream, Maya returns home forever changed, carrying with her a newfound appreciation for her community's past. As her mother quietly smiles at Maya's renewed belief, the legend lingers in the night. In the film's final moments, Tamasak appears once more, returning to the monument where his spirit becomes one with the statue, suggesting that some stories never truly end. Blending magical realism with historical truth, Mata sang Tamasak is a heartfelt tribute to the enduring power of memory, sacrifice, and the generations who keep history alive by continuing to tell its stories.
